The SVX-1B is a single channel variable speed motor controller, appropriate for small aircraft electric trim systems.

It can tolerate loads up to five amps, however, most aircraft servo motors require less than one amp. Speed is controlled using a pulse-width-modulator (PWM), adjustable with an on-board potentiometer. Speed control is achieved by using one of two inputs. One input is active low (ground) and the other is active high (floating). To use the active high input, the active low input must grounded.

The active low input is tolerant of high voltages (greater than 100 volts) so that it may be shared with out circuits, such as annunciator lamps. Normally, an airspeed switch, flaps deployed switch or manual switch is connected between one of the two speed control inputs and ground. When activated, the controller switches to full speed. When not activated, the controller speed is set by the PWM circuitry.

The motor controller chip has over-current and over-temperature protection. If an overload is detected, it will shut down until power is cycled or when cool.

The circuit board will fit into a standard Hammond case, and it's possible to stack two of the boards into the taller version of the case. Case machining is required to fit the dsub connector and allow access to the speed adjustment.
