Great display for any application than experience direct sunlight
I had a 3.5" LCD display with touch as a keypad on the front door to my house. Over time, the intensity of the backlight faded, and in full sun (which it experience in the late afternoon) it was completely unreadable. I got this display, and it's legible in full sunlight! I put a Maxim 44009 Ambient Light Sensor on the I2C Bus 2, and used pigpio to drive the backlight with hardware PWM, going from 10% at night to 100% in full daylight. This display looks fantastic, day and night! Thank you for solving my problem, and at such a reasonable price, too!

Excellent
I searched far and wide for a bright Pi display. This is plenty bright to use in direct sun, reasonably priced, good size for my project, and the wide viewing angle and contrast are an added plus. I was able to get the touch functions working on the exceptionally reliable read-only piCore OS in short order.

Universal problem solved
I've been working with Raspberries for years. Several times the need for a high brightness display has come up. What I've discovered is a very high price Is demanded, generally several hundred. I happened by Makerplane in a recent search and thought wow! The price seemed reasonable and the specs looked great. The display matches the form factor of other 5" displays I have purchased. I immediately placed my order. When it arrived, I plugged it into a Raspberry and using the sd card provided by Makerplane, I fired it up. It did not disappoint. A walk out into Florida sunlight at noon tested its mettle. No problem. I have found the need to replace the touchscreen driver when updating the Raspberry. John was very helpful and provide quick responses to my queries. I think there's a good market for this display and hope it might find its way onto Amazon or similar. I would recommend this display for anyone dealing with sunlight readable display needs.
